Some stories have the power to transcend time, leaving an indelible mark on the heart—and the memoir Two Dollar Bills is one such story. This beautifully written account of a father and son’s relationship is as heartwarming as it is raw, offering readers a front-row seat to the complexities of family, love, and the unshakable bonds that tie us together. The narrative takes us through the colorful life of Big Billy, a man whose actions straddled the line between right and wrong. Often compared to a modern-day Robin Hood, his generosity and love for those around him were unmatched, making him a character you can’t help but root for, even in his darkest moments. What strikes me most is how the memoir captures the evolution of the father-son relationship over the years—its ups and downs, heartbreaks and triumphs. The understanding that developed between them as they navigated life’s challenges was nothing short of inspiring. Their bond reminded me that love, though imperfect, is often the greatest legacy we can leave behind. The book made me laugh out loud at the cry like a baby. I found myself savoring the stories, many of which felt like pieces of a puzzle that finally clicked into place. For those familiar with the family at the heart of this tale, it offers not just insight but a chance to connect with their past in a deeply personal way. Two Dollar Bills is a memoir that will stay with me forever—a reminder that legacies are not just etched in history but in the hearts of those who carry them forward. It’s a story of love, redemption, and the enduring power of family, and I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Two Dollar Bills is one of those books you just can’t put down. Bill Coyman tells his story with such humor and honesty that you feel like you’re part of the ride. His father may have had a thousand problems, but showing love was never one of them. I laughed out loud so many times and found myself close to tears at others. It’s funny, heartfelt, and unforgettable — a wild and touching journey that sticks with you long after you’re done reading.
Two Dollar Bills is a powerful and heartfelt story of a family narrative that could be the makings of a movie plot! Billy describes the emotional weight of the story leaving the reader to reflect on their own family dynamics. The storytelling is compelling - bringing to life events the reader can feel a part of and the local New England ties swiftly draw the reader into the pages of the book. What starts as a straightforward account quickly evolves into a breathtaking emotional journey. The end of the book makes you feel as if you are there right alongside the subjects - cheering for triumph. To know this is a true story makes it all the more inspiring and unforgettable. Sometimes real life stories can be more fascinating than fiction.
From page one I didn’t want to put this book down. The author grabs your attention and created a page turning memoir. Each chapter offers another layer to the complexities of family and the choices we make moving through life. The story that unfolds between father and son will stay with you long after you turn the last page. The unconditional love is woven through good and bad times, laughs and tears, even when you think it will splinter, there is more to learn. You may know how a person impacts your life, but not always do know what that friendship meant to them. This author reveals so much about the impact of friendship and love throughout the two Bill’s lives. Hoping that when this book is available for audio, it is read by “little Bill.” I feel I can hear him telling this story.
